Celebrating the life of

Earl E. Crew

September 27, 1946 - December 21, 2017

Earl E. Crew

Earl E. Crew passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Memorial University Medical Center after a short illness.  Earl was born in Malinta, OH to Gale and Anna (Loudon) Crew on September 27, 1946.  He was an only child but was surrounded by his extended family throughout his childhood.

Earl graduated from Malinta-Grelton school before attending Defiance College in Defiance, OH where he earned a B.A. in Business Education.  His excellent work ethic began early, as he paid his way though college working as a bartender and hospital orderly.

After college Earl began teaching, but it turned out to be a short career for him.  He found his way into the financial credit giant, Equifax Inc., where he was able to apply his analytical and mathematical mind in his 33-year career.  During those years, Earl excelled in his career and was named to the Chairman’s Circle, was quoted in The Wall Street Journal and retired as the Vice President of Compensation.

The time came to begin his next career, retirement!  Here Earl discovered many new passions.  He could be found doing many different things, but a few meant the most to him – spending time with his children and grandchildren, volunteering at the Cancer Center, his work as a Stephen Minister, going on cruises with Katherine and their friends and playing golf with his buddies and son.  His lifelong passion was cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Surviving Earl is his wife of 36 years, Katherine, of Savannah.  She pulled, pushed and supported Earl through two bouts of cancer and most recently his battle with dementia, but never left his side.  Also surviving are his children, Amy Crew of Woodstock, GA and Todd Crew of Roswell, GA, his granddaughters Jordan Crew and Stella Crew of Roswell, GA, his sister-in-law Charlotte Bacon (Luther) of Pembroke, GA, his sister-in-law Louise Butts (Rob) of Marietta, GA and nephews Allen Butts of Boulder, CO and David Butts of Marietta, GA.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 2pm at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church or The American Cancer Society.

My condolences to the Crew family for the loss of your dear loved one. During this most difficult time, may Jehovah God comfort you in all your sorrows and give you peace. Also, during the days to come, may Mr. Crew's sweet memories fill your hearts with joy and peace.

I am very sorry for your loss. I know this is a difficult time for you. One thing that always comforts me when I lose a loved one is the scripture at Revelation 21:4,5. God promises that "death will be no more" and he also assures us that "these words are faithful and true". One day we will have the privilege of seeing our dead loved ones again. I hope this brings you much comfort in your time of need. My Condolences

Katherine, my heart breaks for your loss. I know how much you cherished each other and the time you shared during your work and retirement days....hope this gives some comfort I am standing on the seashore A ship appears and spreads the white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the ocean. It is an object of beauty and I stand watching till at last he fades away on the horizon, and someone at my side quietly says, "He is gone."Gone where?" Gone from my vision, that is all; He is just as large as when I saw him last. The diminished size and the total loss of sight is in me, not in him: and just as the moment when someone at my side says, "He is gone." there are others who are watching him coming and their voices take up a joyful shout, "There he comes" Robert Browning
